Chanel No. 5 L’Eau Eau de Toilette was launched in 2016 and created by Olivier Polge, the son of Jacques Polge and current in-house perfumer for Chanel. This reinterpretation of the iconic Chanel No. 5 is designed for a new generation, offering a fresher, more transparent take on the legendary floral aldehydic structure. Radiant, clean, and youthful, No. 5 L’Eau captures the essence of modern femininity with effortless grace and luminous simplicity.
The fragrance opens with a bright, effervescent blend of lemon, mandarin, orange, neroli, and aldehydes. The citrus trio offers a zesty, invigorating freshness, while neroli lends a delicate floral sparkle. Aldehydes—signature to all No. 5 variations—remain present but softened, adding a subtle soapy, airy lift that keeps the opening light and modern.
At the heart of the composition lies a bouquet of May rose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang. The May rose is delicate and dewy, blending seamlessly with the creamy richness of ylang-ylang and the green-white radiance of jasmine. This floral core feels airy and elegant, never heavy or overly ornate, reinforcing the fragrance’s crisp, minimalist character.
The base notes are composed of white musk, cedar, and vetiver. The musk provides a soft, cotton-like warmth that melts into the skin, while cedar and vetiver contribute a touch of dryness and gentle woodiness. The result is a clean and contemporary finish that maintains the spirit of Chanel No. 5 but with a breezier, more casual elegance.
